Pinus caribaea Morelet, Rev. Hortic. Cote d'Or Oct. (1851).[Caribbean pine]
Description
Notes
Apart from the foliage and cone characters, a noteworthy diagnostic character for this species are the long fascicle sheaths and the multinodal shoots, the latter being an effective adaptation to the tropical climate enabling the tree to especially grow when it rains and to halt growth during drought periods.
Natural Distribution
Central America, Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
